General stream

To be eligible to apply under the General stream you must provide one of the following:

  • proof of a close relative in Manitoba
  • two affidavits of support (MAS), each completed by a close friend or distant relative in Manitoba
  • proof that you have previously worked full-time in Manitoba for at least six months
  • proof that you completed an educational program in Manitoba of at least one academic year (excluding language-training programs)
  • Skilled workers who apply under the General stream will be considered for nomination if they can satisfy the MPNP that they:

  • can be assessed sufficient points for nomination
  • have the training, work experience and language ability necessary for long-term employment in Manitoba (including any licence or certification required in your country of residence)
  • have demonstrated a clear ability and intention to establish permanently and successfully in Manitoba
  • Your application will be assessed points according to age, education, work experience, language ability and adaptability. You must score at least 55 points, as assessed by a MPNP program officer.

    Family Support stream

    You are eligible to apply under the MPNP Family Support priority assessment stream if you can demonstrate that you:

  • have a close relative who is an established resident of Manitoba and who is willing and able to support your settlement in the province.
  • meet our minimum requirements for age, education, work experience and language ability
  • Family Support stream minimum requirements

    Age: You are between the ages of 21 and 49.

    Education/training: You have completed post-secondary education of at least one academic year and received a diploma or certificate.

    Work experience: You have at least two years of full-time work experience within the past five years.

    Language: You have enough English or French to get a job in Manitoba in your intended occupation soon after you arrive. For an objective assessment of your English skills take an IELTS test (International English Language Testing System) and submit your score with your application.

    Adaptability: You can demonstrate your intention and ability to establish successfully in Manitoba based on your:

  • connection to Manitoba, including settlement supports from family
  • employability, based on your training and work experience related to your intended occupation, including any licence or certification required in your country of residence
  • settlement funds
  • Applicants should have at least C$10,000 plus C$2,000 for each accompanying dependant. (If you don't have enough money you may apply with the support of your close relative, as explained below.)
  • Who is a close relative and what must they do for you to apply under the Family Support stream?

  • A close relative is defined as a mother/father, son/daughter, sister/brother, aunt/uncle, niece/nephew, grandparent or first cousin.
  • You must include with your MPNP application documents showing how you are related to your close relative.
  • Your close relative must supply documents showing that he or she is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and has lived in Manitoba for at least one year.
  • Close relative must complete a Manitoba Affidavit of Support (MAS) form.
  • This form must be witnessed and signed by a Manitoba notary public or comissioner for oaths. (NOTE: It is illegal in Manitoba for a commissioner for oaths to charge money to witness this document. A notary public may charge a fee.)
  • If your close relative has supported the applications of other relatives for immigration to Canada she/he must give this information to the MPNP and must include the current address and employment status of the previously supported or sponsored person(s).
  • You must designate your close relative as your representative who is authorized to communicate with the MPNP if personal information needed during the application process.
  • If you cannot demonstrate that you have sufficient settlement funds (explained in the application kit) your close relative must complete the Declaration of Financial Support By Close Relative section of the Manitoba Affidavit of Support (MAS) form.
  • International Student

    The International Student priority assessment stream is for graduates who have established strong ties to Manitoba and intend to live, work and establish their careers here.

    To be eligible to apply you must have already:

  • graduated from a post-secondary educational program of at least one academic year at a Manitoba institution
  • obtained a post-graduation open work permit from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC)
  • received from a Manitoba employer a formal offer of a full-time, long-term job related to your field of studies, AND
  • You must be working for that Manitoba employer, and have been so for at least six months.
  • If your status changes while you're awaiting MPNP assessment

    Working grads who move from the job they indicated on their MPNP application must notify the PNP in writing and include a personal reference and job offer letter from their new employer in Manitoba.

    Grads from other provinces are welcome

    If you completed a post-secondary educational program in another province of Canada you could still qualify for the MPNP under the Employer Direct stream.

    To be considered, grads from other Canadian provinces or territories must:

  • be working and have been with the same Manitoba employer for at least six months on a post-graduate open work permit
  • demonstrate strong ties to Manitoba (such as friends or family) Go to the Employer Direct page to read what you must do under this MPNP assessment stream.
  • Employer Direct

    Employer Direct is a MPNP priority assessment stream that helps foreign workers who have been working in Manitoba for at least six months, reside permanently within the province.

    Under this stream you can apply to immigrate to Manitoba on the strength of a long-term, full-time job offer from a Manitoba employer. Once the employer provides you with the job offer, you can include it with your MPNP application.

    To be considered for nomination you must demonstrate that you have:

  • a formal offer of long-term, full-time job with a Manitoba employer
  • the training, work experience and language ability required for the job you have been offered (including any licence or certification required in your country of residence)
  • the intention and the ability to settle permanently in Manitoba
  • dependants

    Manitoba values the contribution that family units can make to the economic development of our province and encourages the inclusion of eligible family members in your application to the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program. Eligible family members included in your application are called "accompanying dependants."

    Eligible accompanying dependants include:

  • your spouse (legal marriage or common-law partnership of at least one year)
  • children under the age 18 of whom you have legal custody
  • adult children who are:
  • less than 22 years of age and not married or in common-law relationship
  • over 22 years of age and who are not financially independent due to a physical or mental condition
  • over 22 years of age and who are actively pursuing academic, professional or vocational training on a full-time basis
  • Strategic Initiative

    you are eligible to apply to the MPNP through a Strategic Initiative if you:

  • have received a letter of invitation to apply as part of an MPNP targeted promotional initiative, OR
  • are an adult dependant of a Manitoba provincial nominee and you do not meet MPNP criteria for "eligible accompanying dependant" but you can demonstrate that you are a financially dependent family member and that the provincial nominee will help you establish successfully in Manitoba, OR
  • have the support of an ethnocultural community organization in Manitoba that will help you arrange an exploratory visit that has been pre-approved by the MPNP
